…Without a doubt ‘Yael’ is the most brilliant dance performance to come out of Israel during the past year, and Yossi Berg has become Israel’s most outstanding choreographer. He was worth waiting for.

Berg’s achievement is two-fold: first, he displays depth and insight that are rare when it comes to women and femininity. Secondly, Berg swept the dance troupe into an exciting performance with no less than a hypnotizing presence on the stage… this is a sure sign of his extraordinary talent.

…It is a pleasant surprise to see dance with meaning and a message, when most choreographers are busy looking for visual gimmicks. The clear message in this performance deals with sexuality in a way that is neither cheap nor simplistic.

The performance focuses on women and femininity, on the balance of power between the sexes, on attitudes toward the opposite of sex, on the gap between the exterior and the interior. All this is done with a flowing movement that integrates successfully into the themes of the performance, while also being esthetic and intriguing.
